A b o u t

Taiwan-born, New Zealand-raised collaborative pianist, répétiteur, and vocal coach Amy Chang is currently based in Glasgow, and will soon relocate to London in Summer 2022. An alumna of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (MMus Repetiteurship) and the University of Auckland (MMus(Hons) Vocal Accompaniment, PGDipMus Collaborative Piano and Voice, BMus Classical Piano and Voice Performance), Amy has worked as répétiteur and vocal coach at both institutions upon graduation, as well as British Youth Opera (2020/21), Edinburgh Studio Opera (2021-22), Mahogany Opera (2022), Opera Factory (2016-2018), and New Zealand Opera’s Pop-Up Chorus (2017).

As a répétiteur, Amy has worked on a wide range of repertoire in scenes and in full productions, the latter including L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Giulio Cesare, Orpheus in the Underworld, Dialogues des Carmélites, Les Mamelles de Tirésias, L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, L’Occasione fa il ladro, Hänsel und Gretel, Impressions de Pelléas, Die Dreigroschenoper, and Flight. Amy’s upcoming engagements include Pelléas et Mélisande with Byre Opera in June and If Opera‘s (formerly Iford Arts) La Rondine, Rita, Il segreto di Susanna, and Dido and Aeneas in August.

On the concert and competition platform, Amy’s performances and accolades include the Ye Cronies Opera Prize with winner Rosalind Dobson, Mozart Singing Competition Semi-Finals with Jonathan Forbes Kennedy, lunchtime concert at the Wellington Church of Glasgow with Jonathan Forbes Kennedy, winning the 2021 Elgar/Spedding Memorial Lieder Prize with James Quilligan, Rodney Gibson Early Music Prize with Emily Hodkinson at the 2021 Patricia Routledge National English Song Competition, lunchtime concert at the University of St Andrews’ Laidlaw Music Centre with Alycia Hayes, 2020 Governor’s Recital Prize in Singing with finalist Timothy Edmundson, and 2020 Norma Grieg French Song Prize with finalist Tamsin Birch.
